A diretriz de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis da OMS recomenda o exame de todas as mulheres grávidas para detecção de sífilis durante a primeira consulta de pré-natal. Esta recomendação se aplica a todos os ambientes, quer tenham alta ou baixa prevalência de sífilis.
