Intravenous iron therapy is recommended over oral iron therapy for women with iron-deficiency anaemia after birth when oral iron cannot be used or is not tolerated or there is a clinical need to treat women with severe iron-deficiency anaemia rapidly, provided staff are trained to evaluate and manage anaphylactic reactions.
