Short-course standard high-dose primaquine treatment: To prevent relapse, WHO recommends against an additional treatment option of using primaquine 1.0 mg/kg/ day for seven days to treat P. vivax or P. ovale malaria.

  • There is a significantly increased risk of serious adverse events (moderate to large undesirable effect) at this daily dosing of the standard high dose.
