Certain newer anti-epileptic medications (lamotrigine, levetiracetam and topiramate) should be offered as add-on therapy in patients with medication resistant convulsive epilepsy. The essential anti-epileptic medications (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, and valproic acid) may be of benefit as add-on therapy in patients with medication resistant convulsive epilepsy.
